Nov 14 – We like Oatmeal in our Stouts
Ian and Ross attempt try two Oatmeal stouts they’d been saving, but due to a can malfunction, there had to be a last-minute substitution. We drink the Big Poppa Oatmeal Stout from Candid Brewing, the Mocha Oatmeal Stout from Propeller, and the Muddy Big Stout from Wayfarer’s.
Nov 8 – Surprise IPAs
Ian and Ross decide to try a couple of IPAs based on recommendations. Breton’s Grapefruit IPA and North Brewing’s Malternate Reality, and are pleasantly surprised.
Oct 31 – Leftover Pumpkin Ales Solo
Ross goes solo to try two Pumpkin ales that didn’t make the table the previous week, Nine Locks’ Harvest Pumpkin Ale and Propeller’s Pumpkin Spiced Ale. He also finishes off a leftover Gravedigger from PEI.
Oct 24 – One of these pumpkins is not like the other
Ian and Ross get into the seasonal pumpkin ales at the NSLC and fail to read the small print. We compare the Spiced Up from Breton Brewing, the ‘Oh My Gourd’ Pumpkin Ale from Garrison, and the ‘Gravedigger’ Pumpkin Ale from Upstreet, failing to notice that Upstreet is in PEI. Not Nova Scotia. Oct 17 – Stouts of the Wolf & Pony variety
Ian and Ross try two stouts, the Wolf Hall Stout from Paddy’s Pub Brewery, and the Twinkle Pony Tiramisu Stout from North Brewing. This attempts to answer a very old, anecdotal question in my family… can a wolf beat up a pony?
Oct 10 – Sour Cherried Sours
Ross and Brittany get back to sours and try two Sour beers. The Sour Cherry (potentially kettle soured) from Lazy Bear Brewing and the Quench! Cherry Sour from Candid Brewing. Our son tries to become part of the show as well, which is why it’s a shorter episode this week.
Oct 3 – American Pale Ales
Ian and Ross try a couple of APAs from Annapolis Brewing Company and Nine Locks Brewing, as it seems to be a less scathing flavour profile. Or at least it is meant to, we think.
Sept 26 – Brown Ales and ‘words that sound dirty but actually aren’t’
Ian and Ross choose the lower-percentage Brown Ales (if you call 5.0 ‘low’) and then Ian breaks out the thesaurus. Lazy Bear Brewing’s Honey Brown Ale and the Hub Town Brown Ale from Truro Brewing.
Sept 19 – Are Conventional Ales Awful?
Ian, James, and Ross are joined by Ananda to try a few of “the big beers” that sell high quantity in Nova Scotia, and try to see if we give them a bad reputation with good reason. We try Molson Canadian, Oland Export Ale, and Keith’s India Pale Ale.
Sept 12 – We’re Nutty about Porters
We try a couple of porters which claim a nut flavour of some kind. North Brewing’s “Pip Pip Cheerio” english porter and Hill Top Hops’ “Newporter”. We feel we waited too long on the Newporter so it might not have been its best representation, unfortunately.
